We will be hosting a “recording boot-camp” where seasoned Sound Arts interns assisted by new students from youth outreach and media literacy programs, will record, mix and deliver songs produced by selected sponsored artists. The first three days will highlight recording setup and techniques, followed by a full week of music production and collaboration. Artists are invited to apply for this unique opportunity to record their songs and take part in a music compilation, totally for free!

We’ll work together to produce two to four artists/bands, start to finish. All the participants receive credit in the compilation and are encouraged to network, collaborate, and take part in future programs and opportunities in the filed of music production. Intern hours will also be logged to satisfy portions of required intern hours for other youth training programs.

This is a very fresh idea still undergoing some incubation, but we are looking to use this model and pilot project in a future grant proposal. Our goals are to provide free/discounted studio time to up and coming artists in the Bay Area, establish a crash course program to educate young engineers and producers, and to create a creative venue that releases routine compilations from a variety of genres and communities.

To apply for a recording sponsorship email:
education@soundarts.org

or for more information, email:

Last week Wendy Levy from the Bay Area Video Coalition put together a multi-platform producer program like no other. The 2008 Producers Institute was a 10 day opportunity to incubate great ideas for social change, within some of San Francisco’s best facilities, and amongst some of the sharpest and most well informed teams of creative professionals. Producers and directors from around the world are paired with mentors and experts in audio, video, web 2.0, social networking, mapping, Second Life, and game design to help manifest multi-platform projects that connect people with political, cultural, environmental, and open-source information and content. Many producers arrived with a rich seed while others were had already created sites or documentaries. In all cases, the result for each team, from the highly productive week, was a 15 min keynote presented at The Museum of the African Diaspora to organizations such as the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Sundance Documentary Institute, and ITVS. Each presentation encapsulated the, largely user driven, web, mobile, and multimedia concepts and proposals that would help to provide users with the tools, networks, and inspiration to use cutting edge technology to create a social, political, and global influence. A truly unbelievable experience!
